LOGAN MILLER

Protégé of Robert L. Reed and member of the St. Louis Hoofers Club, Logan began to study dance at the age of four years old. Logan was about to quit dancing when he started to take rhythm tap classes with Robert L. Reed, grandson and protégé of Maceo Anderson, one of the original Four Step Brothers.  Mr. Reed saw potential in Logan and took him under his wing.  Only months later, Logan in his first live performance, dancing to the beat of a live jimbe drummer, received a standing ovation from none other than Savion Glover!    

Logan has performed  throughout the United States, at the Detroit Tap Festival, Flint Tap Festival the Dowagiac festival more!

Logan, at twelve years old, traveled to Duisburg Germany where he performed as a featured performer in the Duisburg Tap Festival and assisted Mr. Reed with master classes. 

February 2, 2002 He was honored to perform with the St. Louis Hoofer’s Club as tribute dancers for the Doctors of Dance program where Oklahoma City University School of American Dance and Arts Management in cooperation with the Robert L. Reed Tap Heritage Institute, Inc. gave nine legendary hoofers honorary doctorates.   A special treat for Logan on that trip he accompanied Dr. Leonard Reed to his birth place at Lightning Creek near Nowata Oklahoma.

Mr. Reed created opportunities for Logan to develop relationships with the legends of tap like Dr. Jimmy Slyde, Dr. Prince Spencer and Dr. Leonard Reed and Donald O’Connor at the St Louis tap festival and Doctors of Dance.

Logan has enjoyed the special honor to assist Dr. Slyde, Dr. Spencer and Mr. Reed in master classes at the St. Louis Tap Festival.

In 2003 Logan was selected as one of three St. Louis Hoofers to appear on the live CBS talent competition Star Search.   They reached the Semi-Finals.  He also danced in the movie solo with Mr. Reed and his  son Robert III.

Following the appearance on Star Search, Logan began to work extensively with Mr. Reed’s son Robert L. Reed III.  Robert was touring with Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk when the Hoofer’s were in Hollywood.  Robert opened yet another dimension for Logan with his own unique powerful style of tap.

In the 2004 “ALL THAT TAP” Masters Tap Concert at the St. Louis Tap Festival, Logan performed with the St. Louis Hoofers and was also honored to perform as a featured solo act . Still a teenager, Logan realizes he is still learning, yet he is proud of his accomplishments and values the relationships he has built with Mr. Reed, his children Robin and Robert and the masters of tap throughout the industry. Learning about and from the past and current  masters, Logan hopes to contribute to the next generation of tap.

Logan continues to make appearances in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, he was featured in the May/June 2005 Dance Spirit Magazine article 20/20 as one of the 20 top tap dancers under the age of 20.  Logan was privileged to assist Professor Robert L. Reed in teaching classes at the Tradition in Tap workshops at Nola Studios and the world famous Broadway Dance Center.  He was especially honored to be called on to speak about his experiences with Dr. Jimmy Slyde at the Tradition In Tap Awards ceremony.  In 2006 Logan again was granted a wonderful opportunity, performing solo and as part of the Six Feet of Rhythm at the welcoming gala for Ms. Katherine Dunham in East St. Louis.  As 2007 is underway Logan has teaching and performing throughout the United States and was featured at the St. Louis Tap Festival and Tap Into A Cure in Alberta Canada.  As he pursues an academic career at Hofstra University in New York, he served as Tap Choreographer of Hofstra's Dance Works Club and can be found teaching and performing around New York.
